My Story - Biography of Mike Colle

"You have to be there with people, on the street..."
 

Mike Colle has served the people of Eglinton-Lawrence where he lives, works, and has raised his family, as a teacher, city councillor, TTC Chairman and MPP.

Prior to being elected as an MPP in 1995, Mike served as a City of York councilor and a Metropolitan Toronto councilor where he served as TTC commissioner and was chair of the TTC from 1988 to 1994. He also taught high school history at St. Michael’s College School, where he coached the senior football team for 18 years.


Mike Colle’s initiatives as an MPP include:
  • Protecting the Oak Ridges Moraine
  • Installing Red Light Cameras at dangerous intersections
  • Legislation for Portable Heart Defibrillators in public places
  • Protecting Caregivers and Nannies from exploitation
  • Recognizing and Regulating Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Leading the community in the fight to save the Eglinton Theatre
  • Modernizing Animal Protection Legislation
  • Expanding Community Policing in schools and high risk areas
  • Delivering funding for Baycrest Research Centre for Aging and the Brain and Café Europa.
  • Securing $16 Million to save Public School Polls


Mike Colle continues to champion initiatives including:
  • Ensuring the Eglinton - Crosstown LRT gets built
  • Fighting for increased support for Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia patients
  • Protecting our vulnerable from Bed Bug Infestations
  • Ending Genetic Discrimination in Ontario
  • Ensuring Public Housing is not privatized
  • Banning of Handguns in cars and bars
  • Expanding Full Day Kindergarten
  • Supporting Clean, Renewable, Energy Jobs through wind, solar, and conservation investment
  • Banning Credit Scoring for home insurance
  • Establishing May as Jewish Heritage Month in Ontario

Mike and his wife Sharon live in the Eglinton-Lawrence riding. They have four children and five grandchildren. Mike is a life long marathon runner, with a personal best time of 3:29 and continues to run the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon on a regular basis.
